NEW REVIEW
***** A positive view of the universe June 23, 2015
An excellent story of how two
societies can live together for the betterment of all. It is my hope that this
author gives us ore based in this universe. I am looking forward to reading
more by this author.
EXCERPT
Lily half turned, and began skidding down into a large hole that
suddenly opened under her feet. She fell on her back, still sliding helplessly
downward. Beside her, Ming and Conley were trapped in the same capricious
landslide.
Ming had spread-eagled his arms and legs to slow his descent. He
yelled urgently, “Get the ropes!”
Conley caught hold of Lily’s right wrist, while he grasped his
bared sword blade in his other hand. He held the sword so it pointed down
between his legs. Lily wondered what fearful danger lay at the bottom of the
hole. In an instant, she saw it and stifled a scream. They were funneling
inexorably into a monstrous mouth ringed with jagged triangles of teeth. She
struggled to grab her laser with her free hand.
The awful mouth was only a few scant feet away. With a swift
motion, Conley threw his sword into the gaping mouth. Simultaneously, Ming and
Lily fired their lasers. A high pitched shrieking arose, and the convulsions of
the monster scattered sand and rocks about them.
In the turmoil, Lily saw that Ming had caught a rope and hung,
suspended away from the walls of the funnel. He threw another rope towards her.
She grabbed the rope and hitched it to her belt. But, below her, Conley was
still slowly descending into the erupting sands. She thought he wanted to
retrieve his sword.
Lily yelled into her wrist com, “Give me slack!”
She let herself slip downward. Conley was almost buried in the
shale at the bottom. Suddenly, his head ducked under the stones and immediately
reappeared. He stretched up his arm and grabbed her ankle firmly.
“Okay, pull us up slowly,” Lily shouted into the com.
