Welcome
to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers showcase their work
with 8-10 sentences.
This
week, I’ll continue the fight from Grand Master’s Pawn with one sentence overlap from last week.
The leader grabbed her arm
roughly.
Violet twisted away and kicked
at his shin. He staggered and fell to the ground with a cry of pain. Another
man punched a fist at her face, smashing against her cheekbone. Ignoring the
blow, she dodged aside and thrust her stiffened fingers into his nose. He
yelled in agony and backed off. The third man was cleverer, he caught her hands
and pinned them behind her back. She couldn’t wriggle from his grasp.
“Blasted pawn, you won’t
escape!” he grunted. “Your filthy voidal Grand Master can’t help you.”
Last week's snippet can be read at
Description
Who are the most powerful entities in
the galaxy?
The twelve Grand Masters claim that
exalted status. Their
psychic power is deadly to an ordinary person and they prohibit the training of new
psychics.
Twenty-two year old empath Violet Hunter hides her forbidden
talent to follow her dream of exploring unknown planets as the pawn of a Grand
Master. One Grand Master risks selecting her as his pawn, despite her father’s dire
prophesy. Violet sees
only his griffin avatar for instructions on her missions. She
discovers the mysterious Grand Masters are suspects in the deadly epidemics
sweeping the galaxy and the problem of breaks in the interplanetary portal web.
Violet hunts for the culprits, finding clues and strange
allies in her missions. While seeking the truth, she does the unthinkable. She
bargains with her obnoxious Grand Master and plunges into a world of vicious
conflicts and an impossible love. Pursued by hostile aliens and Grand Masters, she
escapes on
a desperate search for allies to save her Grand Master.

I haven't got to this yet!!!! I suspect I'm going to be reading as well as writing this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI've got a deadline and I'm on vacation in the UK! Hiked 7 miles today. No reading yet.
DeleteI'm about halfway through this book. Never enough time to read! I hope you enjoy your vacation, Aurora! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I agree about the lack of time for reading.
DeleteI suspect that Violet is more than able to surprise her attackers. I am looking forward to the next piece.
ReplyDeleteJust wait!
DeleteGo Violet! Just more proof that size doesn't always guarantee victory. I hope she gets away!
ReplyDeleteShe had better get away, she has more missions before the story is over.
DeleteI have a hunch the fight isn't over. :) Great action packed snippet.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Karen, Violet probably has more moves than these guys have ever seen. Really a terrific fight scene going on - great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteShe's a fighter!
ReplyDeleteShe's a fighter!
ReplyDeleteCombat skills are expected for a pawn.
DeleteGood action. I liked your use of 'voidal' as an epithet.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteTeleportation goes through the void.
Well, the link for last week's snippet doesn't work, but I do recall last week's snippet being something less than a fight. That said... this is a powerful piec.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I like to kick up the action.
DeleteYikes - she is in a pickle - and I'm wondering how long it's going to take for her cheekbone to really start hurting....and how she's going to get out of this - will she use her empathy? Something else? WILL she get free?!
ReplyDeleteSo many questions!
Her solution encapsulates the spirit of the book.
